Solo for Marco Merenda as part of Danser Encore, at the invitation of Julie Guibert, director of the Ballet de l’Opéra de Lyon.

Danser encore is not to claim to erase what is established between us, but to give this separation the intensity of desire again, the sense of coming closer together: this is what Julie Guibert, director of the Ballet de l’Opéra de Lyon, is proposing for this autumn. Yuval Pick, director of the Centre Chorégraphique National de Rilleux-la-Pape, has responded by addressing the importance of collective and individual memory in the development of dance moves for the performer; memory is a “sewing box” of emotions, and considered alternately as a resource or obstacle to the composition of a move.

“The dancer seizes these traditional rhythms with his usual verve. It’s amazing, funny and beautiful, as he transforms his little blue skirt into a camisole over his white costume, finally grabbing the totem to move it. Yuval Pick’s choreography takes a surprising detour, reflecting his inventive spirit.”
