Dancer, hip-hop choreographer and director of the Free Styles company, Moncef Zebiri has been passionate about dance since his teenage years. He trained with dancers on the forecourt of the Lyon Opera House before joining the prestigious Pockemon Crew (2002–2016).
In 2010, he choreographed his first duet, Là-bas chez vous (Over there, at home), which explores his Franco-Algerian identity, before founding the company Tie Break in 2016, followed by Free Styles in 2019. As part of Pockemon Crew, then Tie Break, Moncef won several world and European titles in battles. With three other dancers, he co-created the show Lobby, then created Classe sick in 2020 and, finally, Joga Bonito in 2024.
Alongside his career as a dancer and choreographer, Moncef is committed to teaching and training. Both in competition and on stage, he works with young audiences to pass on his knowledge.
Career
Prend la direction du Centre Chorégraphique National de Rillieux-la-Pape avec son projet Le BLOCK.
Crée la pièce Joga Bonito, qui fait dialoguer danse hip-hop et foot freestyle.
Intègre le programme du ministère de la Culture La Relève.
Crée la pièce Classe sick, qui tourne plus d’une dizaine de fois dans la Région Auvergne Rhône-Alpes.
Fonde la compagnie Free Styles, développant une écriture chorégraphique plus personnelle.
Suit l'incubateur de IADU (Initiatives d'Artistes en Danses Urbaines) à La Villette à Paris.
Participe à l'organisation du concours chorégraphique Maillage, porté par la Mairie du IIIe arrondissement de Lyon.
Cofonde la compagnie Tie Break avec trois autres danseurs issus du Pokemon Crew. Ils mettent en scène leur première création, Lobby, qui jouera 55 dates en France entre 2018 et 2020.
Créé la pièce Impressions, dans laquelle il met en exergue deux courants : la danse hip-hop et le mouvement pictural de l’Impressionnisme.
Crée son premier duo, Là-bas chez vous, qui questionne son identité franco-algérienne.
Se frotte pour la première fois à l’écriture chorégraphique et co-crée la pièce Gourbi.
Intègre la compagnie Pockemon Crew, avec laquelle il collabore durant 15 ans.
Au sein du collectif, il interprète et co-chorégraphie Gourbi, Second Souffle, Silence, on tourne, Hashtag, entre autres créations.
