Le BLOCK

a new project

for CCNR

Accessibility is at the heart of this project, with the aim of making dance and artistic practice accessible to everyone, regardless of their origins, backgrounds, or horizons.” — Moncef Zebiri

In his project, dance and urban practices are seen as a tool for promoting identity and inclusivity. The CCNR will be particularly open to residents, as well as to all professionals in the field of choreography and beyond, throughout the region. Moncef Zebiri plans to develop festive and popular events, combining amateur and participatory projects with professional creations.

The CCNR building, which reopened to the public in early 2025, is hosting his project entitled Le BLOCK.

Missions

  • A CCN shared with the Rilliard·es: beyond welcoming and introducing people to dance, the BLOCK project includes a strong participatory dimension, notably through the creation of a festive event celebrating dance in all its forms, the Fête de la Danse.
  • A CCN “talent factory”: BLOCK will contribute to the development of hip-hop dance education in the community with regular classes for amateurs, children and adults, and young professionals, as well as workshops, “street camps,” and more. The BLOCK aims to become a talent incubator by drawing on young people in the area to introduce them to cultural professions.
  • A CCN shared with artists: BLOCK will support five artistic teams over three years (Artist Associate program), La Fougue, Lignes urbaines, Compagnie Relevant, Les Alchimistes, and IAAL, who will actively participate in awareness-raising and training activities led by the CCNR. More local companies will be supported thanks to La Base, a shared production and distribution unit.

Artistic vision

As a choreographer, Moncef Zebiri, like all BLOCK artists, creates works designed to appeal to a wide audience through universal themes and approaches that bring audiences and artists closer together. His creations take various forms and are exported to all fields: shows, battles, hybrid events, etc.

I create with the desire to reach all audiences, young and old, regardless of their social or cultural background. In 2017, I created Lobby, based on the musical work of Nina Simone, a show on the borderline between musical theater and comedy, which has been performed more than 60 times on national and international stages as well as in municipal theaters. More recently, the play Joga Bonito is a celebration of collective values, diverting a soccer match for this purpose with the active participation of the audience.” — Moncef Zebiri

With Le BLOCK, I want to pay tribute to Rillieux-la-Pape and make it a place where heritage and creativity converge, imbued with the values that have guided my professional career: accessibility, inclusion, and sharing. These principles guide my vision and fuel my desire to forge connections through hip-hop dance and all the disciplines that intersect with it.”
