Heliosfera will address the relationship of bodies to light as the elemental matter that enables the creation of an environment where life can arise and disappear, from microorganisms to stars.
“For this new project, I want to work particularly on light as the main material for dialogue with bodies. Having previously worked with materials such as fabrics, costumes and masks, canvases and various objects, organic materials such as coal and stones, it’s the intangibility of luminous matter, its ‘atomic’ character as elemental matter, that I’m now interested in exploring.
Light remains a mystery: photons and protons, waves or particles, light spectra, colors, reflections, diffractions, phosphorescence and radiation, the speed of light… This matter, visible to humans only between the infrared and ultraviolet frequencies, is directly linked to our perceptive senses: the eyes, the skin…
In its biological aspect, sunlight is an essential element enabling life, starting with plant photosynthesis. We live in a luminous solar system, and our metabolisms and daily lives are governed by the cycles of the day and the presence and absence of light. Depending on species and geography, this relationship varies…”
