URTICA is a fragment of a collective: two women and two men.
This pack is rustic, lively, elegant, isolated, dazzling.
URTICA is a piece designed for four bodies engaged in lively, sharp movements.
URTICA is a space of exhaustion and equality, delineated by a rectangle of debris and microphones hanging from the ceiling.
A place of ritual, modesty, and dignity.
URTICA is a proposal of what can be made noble out of debris, simplicity and violence.
URTICA is a return to ordinary language, to the artisan’s craft. Saying what we say and doing what we do. Nothing more.
God is not dead, but he is not up there either. Here.
The body. I imagine a vocabulary made up of twists, acrobatic flashes, sharp movements and wanderings through space.I intend to explore the movement created in Viscum further, between syncopated rhythms, martial synchronisation, and a feline relationship with the ground. I want to refine this grammar and apply it to this little pack.
I explore the idea of grabbing and seizing the other person. I want to create mechanisms in which the people on stage grab each other with both hands to throw themselves forward and move forward together.
The power will come from the stage, from the commitment of the performers, and from the sound they produce.
I enjoy observing the transition from the dancing body to the everyday body, so we will work on sequenced patterns and transitions between highly physical engagement and a neutral body.
— Noé Chapsal
The son of a carpenter and a special needs teacher, Noé Chapsal grew up in Pontcharra, in the Isère region, surrounded by lakes, mountains, and four brothers and sisters. In 2006, he discovered breaking during a youth club class, at a time when art and theatre were not even part of his imagination. In this art form, he found friends and a capacity for power and expression that took him on a journey into a new life.Self-taught, Noé trained in the world of battles. His first turning point came in 2014 when he won the French solo championship title, as well as several international group competitions. The fame that these awards brought him led him to travel and discover the culture of breaking in different countries, where he developed a comprehensive and critical view of it.
In 2014, meeting an educator specialising in the functional analysis of the body in dance movement changed his relationship with movement, opening him up to a deconstruction of his dance and a more protean aesthetic. He discovered his vocation as a performer in 2016, and went on to collaborate with hip-hop and contemporary dance companies and choreographers such as Mellina Boubetra, Ayaghma, Chey Jurado and Naïf Production.
In 2023, Noé founded the company Les corps jetés to showcase his creation VISCUM. This first piece was noticed at Les Hivernales at the Avignon Festival and received the first prize from the RIDCC in Rotterdam, triggering a tour of more than 50 dates.
