Through our creations, we explore how the body reflects the tensions within our societies. Engaged bodies, tired bodies, bodies in resistance: it is in weariness that sincere movement is born, movement that does not deceive. For several years now, our choreography has been guided by a quest for letting go and primitive movement. Movement that arises before form, before will, as a necessity of expression. Our encounter with the Maalem*, Nabil Sansi, and the world of Gnawa opened up a new artistic perspective for us, a way of deepening our relationship with gesture, rhythms, and the states experienced by the body. It was therefore natural for us to embark on a journey of immersion in this culture alongside him, in order to open up a path rooted in the Gnawa experience and in the understanding of its codes, gestures and states.
*Maalem: In the Maghreb, a man who teaches and passes on craft or artistic skills; an honorary title given to him; a man who runs a workshop.
Founded in 2012 by Souhail Marchiche and Mehdi Meghari, the Dyptik Company has developed a choreographic language that is both grounded and instinctive, where movement becomes a means of raw, sincere and deeply human expression.
Blending their hip-hop roots with influences from traditional cultures, they seek to question the tensions in our societies and reveal the power of the body as a universal language. Based in Saint-Étienne, the company now performs its creations all over the world — with more than 600 performances on five continents — with iconic pieces such as D-Construction, Dans l’Engrenage, Mirage (Un jour de fête) and Le Grand Bal.
The Dyptik Company also runs the Dyptik Studios, a renowned centre for artistic creation and support. This space, which serves as both a laboratory and a refuge, is designed to be a place for meeting, experimentation and transmission. Today, the company continues its adventure between France and Morocco, driven by an artistic vision that connects bodies, cultures and audiences in a shared experience.
